Coffee Break with PMB {Nominate a Local Supermom}

1
At PMB we love Dunkin’ and we are so grateful that through our partnership with them we are able to recognize local moms.

Am I the only one who kind of hates the term “supermom”? It conjures images of images of a pulled together mom sporting coordinated athleisure wear or sensible heels (side note: are any heels actually sensible?) Her hair is sleek (because apparently, all these moms have endless money for Keratin treatments) and she is juggling multiple children and multiple commitments. On top of it all, this mythical, enviable, supermom has the audacity to feed her children regularly.

Now let’s talk reality. “Pulled together” is not a part of my vocabulary. The closest I come to “athleisure wear” are pajamas or my faded, paint-splattered yoga pants. Instead of a perfectly groomed messy bun, my hair is a fly-away city.  When I try to juggle things, balls drop. Every once in a while, 10am rolls around and I think to myself, “wow, I’m really killing this day!” then quickly realize I’ve forgotten to feed everyone.

And you know what? I’m doing just fine. My kids are awesome, I’m doing a reasonably good job at most of the things I’ve taken on, and sleek hair seems overrated. (This is a lie, I’m still envious of anyone with sleek hair).

I am a supermom. And I bet you are too.

Overwhelmed? Check.

Overworked? Check.

Overtired? Check

This does not disqualify anyone from the title supermom. In fact, showing up for our families every day EVEN WHEN it’s hard is exactly what makes us so super. Motherhood doesn’t always look pretty. But, moms deserve to be recognized for all the work they do each and every day. Sometimes, we just need someone to say that we’re doing a great job and give us the chance to enjoy a cup of coffee.

We’ve partnered with Dunkin’ to celebrate local moms who deserve a Coffee Break with PMB. For the next few months, you nominate the super mom, we’ll deliver the coffee. While we’re there,  we might snap a photo, unload a few groceries, or juggle a ball or two. Because, at PMB, we’ve got your back. We know that you are a supermom and we understand that life feels a lot more manageable when we can all run on Dunkin’.

Note: nomination profiles of Coffee Break with PMB winners will be published on our website.

Tracy Slater
Tracy was born and raised in Southeastern Massachusetts and currently resides about 15 minutes outside of Providence with her husband and their three children, Max (2012), Ryder (2014), and Lily (2017). As a mother, she has dabbled in various parenting philosophies, and after attempting everything from free range to helicopter, she's landed squarely in the camp of "I'll do whatever it takes to make the noise stop." In all seriousness, Tracy believes that the key to happily surviving parenthood is grace. Whenever possible it should be given generously to our children, our spouses, and especially ourselves. Tracy has spent her career working with mothers and children in various capacities. She has a private therapy practice, is an Infant Massage Instructor, and works in Early Intervention. She has learned that one of things that children need most is well supported parents, and she believes that the candid sharing of stories and experiences is an important way of supporting parents. When she's not at work, Tracy spends her days trying to get outside, writing, and searching for her patience at the bottom of a (reheated) cup of coffee. She is an avid runner, and she loves to cook, obsessively organize, and drink wine.
